If you don’t know that the Olympics are on at the moment turn on your TV 🙂
Watching these athletes compete is a wonderful reminder of what some people are willing to do to commit to their dreams. As an amateur athlete for years I have given up time with family and friends and nights at home, traded trackie pants for recovery sessions in the ocean in the middle of winter, and have planned my work, career and travelling around seasons and training nights – and I wouldn’t give up any of it. While some athletes are financially rewarded for their committment most do it for the love of the sport and the desire to be their best and achieve their best.
This got me thinking – what are you willing to give up in pursuit of your dreams?
What is worth trading your time for?
Essentially we all have the same number of hours in a day, a week, a year so what are you doing with your time? Have you ever kept a timesheet? To find out how you spend your time I challenge you to keep a timesheet for a week writing down how you spend each 15 minute block of time. You might be surprised how much time you really are spending on facebook…
Over the past 3 weeks I have not written a blog for the Live Your Dream site because I was off living my dream. I have made a big decision and have decided to put my studies on hold and focus 100% on The Butterfly Movement which is a charity I founded more than 12 months ago. I am passionate about helping to end the cycle of poverty and providing opportunities for people to improve their health, attend school, find employment and participate in sport. I am doing this through the provision of shoes. Last week we launched our second shoe drive, which if you are interested in learning more about check out the poster here.
My belief is that we can all make a big difference in this world with small actions and everything that we do counts.
The name The Butterfly Movement came from the butterfly effect theory in which: if a butterfly flaps its wings on one side of the world it can create a hurricane on the other side. I believe all of our thoughts, words and actions count and impact the lives of others.
I would love you to join me in helping to make this world a brighter and happier place by being happier ourselves, and in my experience when you are being true to yourself and following your dreams you are automatically happier!
Whatever your dream may be it is worthy of your time.
p.s. Remember to start that timesheet – begin with a day and see what you uncover about how you are spending your time.
